ProbuiltRC replica RC Rock buggies chassis are CAD developed based on the full scale buggies. The result of this approach is a striking similarity to the real rigs, and the possibility to evaluate placement of the components during the design stage. This eliminates all the guesswork and headaches during assembly and allows placement of a scale 3d interior, driver and accessories. Some of our chassis come with an opening/removable hood.
As a result of the CAD capability to calculate mass of the components, the link geometry is designed on the Triaged calculator, in order to maximize performance based on our experience of optimal antisquat/antidive values for the intended use of the vehicle. On top of that, both upper and lower link geometry is adjustable, allowing fine tuning of antisquat/antidive to the customer driving style as well as motor, ESC setup, shocks setup etc. etc. (see Busted Knuckle Video on antisquat/antidive for a simple explanation).
The flat skid plate provided with the chassis, allows placement of electronics and motor/transmission on it, lowering the center of gravity and allowing room to mount a full 3d interior.
A 1000mAh 3s 65/130c LiPo battery pack can be fitted into the ProbuiltRC 3D Scale V8 Motor battery container placed in the engine compartment. Batteries of such capacity have been extensively tested for providing enough run time for several hills without adding unnecessary weight, and they are easily accessible for replacement. In case a more extended runtime is required the 3d motor can be removed and a larger battery (generally 2200mAh) can be placed onto the motor support.
Such components/weight distribution has been extensively tested, and it ensures the best performance, without sacrificing the scale appearance of the rig. Tailored placement of the components can be arranged.
Watch the video section to see our rigs in action.
ProbuiltRC chassis are fully TIG welded, resulting in strong, good looking welds, and minimizing distortion of the tube elements and embrittlement/loss of the metal properties due to overheating, typical of other welding processes such as brazing.
They are available in 4mm rod or 5x1mm cold rolled C40 carbon steel, or 5x1mm chromoly tubing.
Probuilt RC rock bouncers are easily dissasembled in a a matter of minutes for cleaning or servicing of the components.
By removing the screws of the shocks upper mounts, upper link, and skid plate (a total of 12 screws), the chassis can be lifted off the skidplate gaining access to electronics and components placed upon it.
The Probuilt Steering Ram support (and the Servo Fuel Cell cover) are also attached to the skid plate so they do not interfere with chassis removal.
All interior accessories including floor and transmission tunnel are mounted onto the chassis and don't have to be removed.
ProbuiltRC tube chassis are delivered powdercoated in the color of your choice. Most RAL colors available as well as textured, metal flakes and candies. Original color is recommended for replica chassis.
All ProbuiltRC chassis are custom built upon order. Besides those displayed in this page, we can build any replica chassis of your choice, as well as any chassis based on customers design. They can be ordered as a bare chassis or in bundled packages including ProbuiltRC parts and accessories. ARTR and RTR versions can also be arranged, with components of your choice.
- Axles: ProbuiltRC Rock bouncer chassis are designed for use with AR60 axles. Most chassis require over-the-axle shock mounts such as Hot Racing # RRT12A01. Steel ring and pinion gears and U-Joint axles (item # AX30780) are recommended. Dog Bone axles (item # AX30419) are a cheaper viable option. CVD axles are NOT recommended as they won't withstand the abuse of rock racing.
For improved handling of the rig and durability of the joints, steering should not exceed 35-40°.
- Servo/Steering: Our chassis generally offer two options: traditional positioning of the servo onto the axle, or cable operated ProbuiltRC Steering Ram, in which case the servo is positioned into the fuel cell in the back of the rig.
Most replica chassis, due to the shape, do not allow placement of the servo on the axle without limiting suspension travel. If you don't plan on using a ProbuiltRC Steering Ram we stronlgy recommend you consider this BEFORE choosing your chassis.
- Transmission: Most transmissions can be fit upon the skid plate. However, SCX10 transmissions are recommended and are the standard option, as they are easyly available and quite reliable when equipped with metal gears. Inexpensive SCX10 transmissions of asian origin, with aluminum casing and steel gears, also have proven to be hard wearing and reliable, although a little noisy.
- Shocks: Shock mounts on the chassis will accept up to 8mm ball joints. Most chassis require 100mm shocks, but this may vary depending on the chassis. Most chassis require over-the-axle shock mounts such as Hot Racing # RRT12A01.
- ESC/Motor: Tekin RX8, Mamba Max Pro, Mamba X, Hobbywing Toro 150, Trackstar 150V2 and similarly sized 1:8 ESCs are strongly recommended for competitions, and will fit onto the skidplate when the rig is equipped with standard 540 motors. If you plan on using a 550 motor you better let us know first. Most of our rigs used in competitions are equipped with good quality brushless sensored motors in the 3000/3300 kv range running on 3S, with a 20t pinion on an 80t spur gear (1:4 reduction)
- Links Any DIY link with good quality plastic joints will do. ProbuiltRC adjustable links are recommended in order to take full advantage of the adjustable link geometry feature.
- Driveshafts: Steel driveshaft recommended. Most chassis may require longer driveshafts than stock or ProbuiltRC driveshaft extension.
- Wheels/Tires: For optimal performance and scale looks, 2.2" wheels, and tires in the 5.0" to 5.5" range are recommended. The use of tires larger than 5.5" will adversely affect the vehicle handling/reliability in the intended use. Wheelbase bears a direct relationship to tire size, and due to the wheelbase of these chassis (370 to 400mm), tires in the 5.3"/5.5" range generally grant the best performance for hill killing action. Bigger is not always better and the use of silly big tires (5.7") will only increase the chance to flip the vehicle or damage parts.
Firm tires compound and foams generally grant the best overall performance and handling for the intended use, as well as lightweight alloy wheels.
Weighing the knuckles, axles etc. should also be avoided; the lower the unsprung weight the better.
- Radio & Receiver: Of your choice
- Batteries: High Discharge (65-130C) 1000 mAh 3s LiPo in case you want to fit them into the 3D Motor, or 2200/2500 mAh to be placed onto the motor support.
These buggies are NOT intended for rock crawling. They will perform poorly.
ProBuiltRC rock buggies are engineered and optimized to perform in scale RC rock racing and hill killing action/competitions, when equipped with the recommended components. These chassis are built to withstand critical rock racing conditions and are fully compliant to demanding EU RCSRRS rulebook requirements.
